Alfred Tissières Young Investigator Award

Alfred Tissières
(1917–2003)

The Executive Council of the Cell Stress Society International has established the Alfred Tissières Young Investigator Award. The award is named in honor and remembrance of Professor Alfred Tissières, a pioneering investigator in the heat shock and cellular stress response field.

Alfred Tissières was broadly known for his support and encouragement of young scientists and it is therefore fitting that this award is for a Post-Doctoral Fellow or Assistant Professor less than 10 years beyond the attainment of his or her doctoral degree.

Selection criteria

Publications, awards, honours, grants, and service to the field.

In order to self-nominate, submit an abstract describing briefly your contributions to the field and check the box indicating that you wish to be considered for this award. Then complete your application by submitting a copy of your curriculum vitae and a summary of your contribution to the field to Helen Neumann .

Applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee which comprises the members of the Cell Stress Society International Council and the Cell Stress and Chaperones Editorial Board. Three finalists will be selected to present their work at a special session during the Congress in Sheffield. Each finalist will receive a travel award to help cover meeting expenses and a certificate indicating the recipient is an Alfred Tissières Award Finalist for 2013. The winner will be selected after the oral presentations and will receive one year’s membership of the CSSI, a certificate and a copy of the Road to Rakaposhi by George Band. This book describes Alfred’s 1954 Cambridge University Expedition to Rakaposhi. The book will contain a front piece stating that it has been given to the Alfred Tissières Award Winner for 2013.

CSSI Early Career Researcher Awards

The Cell Stress Society International will support some Early Career Researcher Awards at the 2013 Congress.

To be considered for an award, an abstract must be submitted online by the deadline. Applicants must check the appropriate box during the online submission process in order to indicate their desire to be considered and confirm their eligibility (see below) and forward a brief biographical sketch to the CSSI for verification (helen.neumann@uconn.edu ).

Submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the CSSI and the successful individuals will receive a travel award, be invited to give an oral presentation at the Congress and receive a certificate which acknowledges their achievement.

Eligibility Criterium

The Primary/Presenting author must be within 17 years of their PhD or MD award date.
